According to Tom, who at one point easily carried a young bear under each arm, they were less than 50% of their proper body weight, just skin and bones.Once confiscated, Bonnie, Ginger and Maryann were now in Tom's care. He was concerned about the bears' future, and began a yearlong search to find them a safe, permanent home.
When he contacted Popcorn Park, we agreed to accept the three, who quietly arrived mid-June, and were transferred to their new den to begin acclimating to their surroundings. Shortly after, they were introduced to the pool with a waterfall, logs and old trees for climbing, and being showered with a spray to cool off. Each experience has been a new one for the bears, as you can see in the accompanying photos. Even simple activities like climbing are a new adventure!
And at the end of the day, Bonnie, Maryann and Ginger curl up and sleep together, no doubt grateful for their new life.
Popcorn Park has plans to expand and improve their area, with a pool and waterfall of their own. (We've temporarily arranged for them to alternate with BooBoo, as the pool is in her area.). Please help us to cover the costs of our new girls' rescue and improvements to their existing compound, as well as their ongoing care. Without donor support, rescues such as this are not possible.
Take a look at Bonnie, Ginger and Maryann where they are now available for sponsorship on the Wildlife Club!
Thanks to Jonathan Bergmann for the great photos!
