AHS/Popcorn Park Reduces Dog Adoption Fees; Seeks Donations

ASSOCIATED HUMANE SOCIETIES/POPCORN PARK is pulling out all the stops this summer to see that manís best friends find some forever friends of their own.

This summer, all three of AHSís Animal Care Centers in Newark, Tinton Falls and Forked River have becoming overwhelmed with orphaned dogs and pups. In an effort to find homes for the canines, Associated Humane Societies has reduced the adoption fees of all dogs and puppies to $100.

Eligible, loving families or individuals who adopt a dog or pup will receive as part of the fee, spaying or neutering, a collar and leash, identification tag, microchipping, necessary inoculations, a five-day medical guarantee and every dog is treated for fleas and ticks with Frontline.

There are a variety of mixed and purebred dogs of all ages available at the shelters, and most have been temperament evaluated.

This trio - Mercedes, Porsche and Bentley - was abandoned in a car and waits to be adopted together from out Tinton Falls shelter.

All three centers are also requesting monetary, food and supply donations from animal lovers who want to help, but might not be able to take in a dog. All shelters are looking for food, treats, bedding, kitten formula, leashes, collars, shampoo, kitty litter, litter boxes, fresh fruits and vegetables, rabbit and guinea pig food, cleaning supplies.

ďEveryday, a new dog or puppy comes through our doors, either because it was abandoned or its owner, for one reason or another could no longer keep it. Itís heartbreaking, and itís causing a strain on the resources at our shelters,Ē said AHS Executive Director Roseann Trezza. ďAssociated Humane Societies remains committed to giving each one of these animals the best care, but now more than ever we are looking for help from our supporters.Ē

Cats and kittens, too, have been surrendered to the three AHS shelters in record numbers this summer, so much so that last month AHS reduced the adoption fees for them, as well. Interested, loving and responsible families and individuals need only pay a $50 fee to cover the many benefits of their new pet after approval of the adoption application and donation. All cats will be spayed/neutered and microchipped, and receive their FVCRP vaccination and rabies inoculation, as well as an identification tag, cat carrier and collar.

There are hundreds of dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and small animals available for adoption at the AHS Animal Shelters in Tinton Falls, Newark and Forked River. You can check them out before meeting them in person by logging on to Petfinder or following the Adoption links on our web site.

If you canít take in a pet or give a donation, but want to do something, consider sponsoring a dog or cat through our Share-A-Pet program or make a donation which we will apply to the care of our animals.
