Associated Humane Societies to Talk Animals at WAMS Luncheon

FARMINGDALE, NJ – There’s good reason why Associated Humane Society/Popcorn Park will be participating at the 8th Annual Woman Against Multiple Sclerosis (WAMS) Celebration of Hope Luncheon at the Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club, September 23.

Oftentimes, dogs that are adopted from one of the Societies’ three Animal Care Centers in Forked River, Tinton Falls or Newark, become successful, devoted therapy dogs, like those that often serve men and women afflicted with this debilitating disease.

Take, for example, Festus. The very young puppy was found abandoned in a lot with his Rottweiler mother, with many unsuccessfully healed injuries on his malformed legs. through AHS ResQ Fund Festus received the proper veterinary care, had his leg removed and was later adopted by a Pennsylvania Family, where the three-legged dog was later trained to become a therapy dog for children with special needs.

“Festus is a shining example of a how if we can help a seemingly hopeless animal, we can reap the benefits,” said Roseann Trezza, Executive Director, AHS/Popcorn Park. “Dogs like Festus have the devotion, discipline and love to help people who really need them.”

Tinton Falls Animal Care Center General Manager Bruce Sanchez will make a presentation at the luncheon about Associated Humane Societies and the wonderful ways it helps animals who, like Festus, often overcome tremendous odds to ultimately become wonderful companions and family members. Information will also be available about adopting pets from Associated Humane, as well as the other programs that the Societies sponsors to protect and care for animals.

The Luncheon begins with a VIP Reception at 11 a.m. and a General Reception at noon. Tickets are $150.00 for the VIP Reception and $100 for the General Reception. There will also be a live and silent auction For information on tickets, contact Lorraine Mackin, Director of Development, National MS Society, Mid Jersey Chapter, 732-660-1005 extension 11 or email at
