Iguanazilla - Not Your Average Iguana

Popcorn Park Zoo and AHS have far too many iguanas - reptiles that cost little to purchase, but more to care for than initially planned by the unsuspecting pet owner. They seem novel ... and then they grow. And develop talons for nails, and thorns on tails. And are no longer wanted.

Our Animal Control Officers were sent out on unusual call to the woods of Wall Township - for an iguana. But not just any iguana, a mammoth iguana, in fact, the largest we have ever picked up.  Due to chilly temperatures the gigantic reptile was fairly docile, but as he thawed, so did his very active personality! He was handled gingerly due to his size, and given a spacious cage to settle down in.

His size inspired staff to name him Iguanazilla, a fitting name for this fellow. We suspect he was abandoned in the woods, no longer wanted and someone didn't know what to do with him. He may have escaped and run, but based on our experiences with unwanted animals we doubt it. (We rescued two potbellied pigs from the woods as well.)

Iguanazilla has a real intelligence in his eyes, and as you can see in his photos, seems to spend some time in reflection. He's really quite handsome, and we hope you see his finer qualities and will consider sponsoring him ... it may be just what he needs.
