Just look at the "before" photo of Dallas (above), who came in six weeks ago today, and you really wouldn't even know that this is the same dog. The "after" photos, taken today by AHS- Tinton Falls volunteer, Meghan, is shocking! Dallas is now 39 pounds (up from the 22 pounds he was when he arrived) and is just the happiest dog alive!
You might remember his sad story, a story that is seen far too often by the staff at our AHS Newark facility. (Read his original story here.) Dallas came to them sick, starving, neglected beyond belief and near death. He was left in the, "care" of a Linden, NJ resident in January. This individual stuffed Dallas into a crate and left him in a dark, unheated hallway of the apartment building for weeks without food, water, or heat. By the time another resident found Dallas, he was lethargic, dehydrated, and had given up all hope of surviving. Our AHS Newark officers rushed him to a veterinary hospital where he was given emergency medical care. His temperature was low, he was terribly emaciated, and they wondered if he would even make it. Well, make it, he did!
Dallas was transferred to our AHS Tinton Falls branch where he has been under the care of Dr. Emily Marion for the last 6 weeks. As you can see, he's plump and healthy now, and he is so grateful for the good care that he's been receiving. He completely put his past behind him and is such a happy and vibrant boy that is puppyish and playful, and just loves life. Since there are charges against the individual that did this to him, Dallas will need to wait until the case is settled before he can be adopted, but he doesn't mind. He is in good hands, and having the time of his life!
This miraculous recovery is thanks to all of our kind and compassionate supporters that contribute so selflessly to our Res-Q Fund. Thanks to that fund, we are able to provide the good medical care that is needed to bring deserving animals like Dallas back from the brink of death. Thank you all for your thoughts and concern for Dallas. He is feeling the love this Valentine's Day!
