To imagine the pain that this little cat endured, thanks to careless humans, is enough to make one queasy. A meek and meager nine pound cat, with a giant, rusty trap hanging from his leg.....really, could it get any worse?
Thanks to our AHS Tinton Falls veterinarian, Dr. Marion, and the staff, Lucky is spending this holiday season safe, warm, fed, and recovering from his terrible injury. This injury was just dreadful, to say the least. Lucky was found in Keansburg, NJ, in such a predicament. The little cat was wandering and happened upon one of these God-awful traps in the woods. He got his left front leg snapped up by it and we just can't imagine how long he was in agony until he was found. Our AHS Tinton Falls ACO picked up Lucky and took him straight to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital where they removed the trap and cleaned and wrapped the leg. Lucky then went back to AHS Tinton Falls where he got some much-needed rest and attention.
When Lucky's leg was checked later by the veterinarian, it was found to be in bad shape and there was just no saving it. During the surgery to amputate the leg, it was discovered that the leg was necrotic, and it actually fell off during the surgery. This poor little creature must have been in such immense pain before he was found, we just can't imagine how he continued to hold on to hope of getting help.
The amputation procedure went well and Lucky is now healing beautifully. He is truly like a brand new cat. He is outgoing and friendly, and has such a sweet disposition. He's only about 4 years old and he even gets along great with other cats. Maybe Lucky had a home at some point in his life, we'll never know, but he certainly deserves a wonderful home now! Once Lucky is completely healed and his stitches are removed, he will be ready to move on. If you are interested in meeting him, please contact AHS Tinton Falls at 732-922-0100 or you can email us.
