Sadly, it seems that it is summer re-runs that the many emergency calls AHS receives are for unwanted and abandoned animals trapped in unoccupied houses.
The number of boarded up & abandoned residences has become an abundant supply of locations to discard unwanted animals or to stockpile them in areas for dog fights.
A young male pit bull had been cast aside in the backyard of an occupied residence. With no food or water, the resourceful fella tried to escape through a partial opening of a chain link fence but had gotten trapped with his collar. We will never know how many days he waited for someone to rescue him; thankfully, it wasn't too long but pictures reveal the cluster of flies and insects that had already collected on his body.
The AHS was alerted to the imprisoned pit & an ACO was immediately dispatched to the rescue. Links is now at the AHS Newark facility awaiting adoption. A donation would help us in our never-ending effort to rescue unwanted animals and our vigorous adoption program.
