THANK YOU ALL!! Last night, we asked for your help in saving a Elmo, a male pig, from slaughter. You responded, and your voices were heard! Elmo is safe and sound, and did NOT go off to the slaughter house this morning. We can't thank you all enough!
Elmo is a pig that resided at Longstreet Farms in Holmdel, NJ. Longstreet Farms is a county park, funded by taxpayers. Although many residents visit Longstreet Farms and bring their children to pet and feed the animals there, many do not understand that when these animals are no longer of any use to the farm, they are sent off to slaughter.
It's a very sad and brutal end for an animal that has been raised around people and is friendly and trusting.
Elmo could no longer be used for breeding, so he was scheduled to go to a slaughter house this morning. We put a message out to all of you last night, asking that you speak up on his behalf. You all made calls and came out for the protest this morning in the rain and when the slaughter house truck arrived, they could not take Elmo due to the public outrage over this. We scrambled quickly and made plans to have Elmo transported to our Associated Humane Societies- Tinton Falls facility, where we have a farm area behind the facility with the capacity to give Elmo a nice yard and comfortable living quarters for the rest of his life.
Our staff are getting Elmo all settled in as we speak and again, we can't thank you all enough for helping us to save his life. We are only able to do this important work, rescuing the animals that need us, thanks to our wonderful and compassionate supporters that donate to our cause. If you can, please make a donation on behalf of Elmo. You can also sponsor Elmo in our Wildlife Club!
