Drake and Dover - Abandoned on the Side of the Road

We'll never understand what goes through people's mind when they commit a cruel act against an innocent animal. What on earth could the person have been thinking that decided to take two sweet, innocent, thin and sickly dogs, leave them in crates, and abandon them on the side of the road? We'll never know, but we're thankful that they were found and are safe with us, instead of ending up in the wrong hands.

It was a cold, winter day when our ACO received the call to go out and pick up two abandoned dogs in South Toms River. The male and female pit bull mix pair were left in separate crates, both filthy dirty, and one crate covered in feces. The young pups were so happy to be brought to the safety of our AHS/Popcorn Park facility and were immediately warmed up, cleaned up, and given a good meal. Both young dogs were so thin and famished, it was as if they had not eaten in days.

The outgoing and friendly pair, who we have named Drake and Dover (after the location of their abandonment) are both around two years old and are so incredibly nice. Drake is mellow and laid back while his girlfriend, Dover, dances around him, trying to get him to play. They have already put this whole awful experience behind them and are looking forward to a bright and happy future.

We are fortunate enough to have our Res-Q Fund which we rely on heavily to treat the animals in need of medical care and TLC that come to us for help. Drake and Dover are both struggling with upper respiratory infections and some malnutrition-related issues, which we expect to have resolved soon, thanks to the good medical treatment that they will receive. Please consider making a donation to our Res-Q Fund to help with Drake, Dover, and so many others like them.

For more information on Drake and Dover or if you're interested in adopting the bright and bubbly pair once they have completed their medical treatment, call us at 609-693-1900 and refer to File numbers 27077 and 27078.
