This is a heartbreaking situation that the Associated Humane Societies must deal with on a daily basis.
It is the continued appalling actions of pet owners who feel no guilt or responsibility for a pet they can no longer keep.
The male dog was tied to a fence at an abandoned house in Newark -- one of countless houses throughout the city that are boarded up and used as safe houses to deposit dogs for breeding, fighting or abandonment. This little guy was tied outside where the public saw him and alerted the AHS. It was probably the owner or caretaker who obviously was concerned and left a small bag of treats hanging from the fence. The terrier had also been neutered. There are so many risks to leaving a vulnerable dog tied and abandoned -- to be a target for cruelty and torment.
The young fella has been moved to our Tinton Falls facility and has proven to be a friendly gent who will even sit on command. Your donations to help Tristan or the many unwanted animals that come through our doors are urgently needed.
