JoJo - 9 Years Old, Hit by Car

Jo Jo has such a worried look about him. He has had a lot to worry about over these last few weeks but now, we hope his mind is a little more at ease.

Jo Jo is a 9 year old cairn terrier that was adopted awhile back from another shelter. Recently, his owner claims that Jo Jo was stolen from him and was missing for about 3 weeks. The disabled owner realized that he could not take Jo Jo back. Regardless of how Jo Jo went missing, the problem is that Jo Jo was hit by a car. When he was found, this little guy was in bad shape. Our AHS Newark animal control officers retrieved him from the police department and didn't know if Jo Jo would make it. They took him directly to Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in Fairfield for emergency care.

The veterinary team at AERA got right to work on little Jo Jo and performed a number of diagnostic tests on this poor pup that could not walk. They found that Jo Jo sustained a broken pelvis in the accident. The thought was that Jo Jo may need surgery at some point for the break in his pelvis, but it was too soon to tell.

Once Jo Jo was stabilized, he was transported to our AHS Tinton Falls facility where our medical staff took over his care. Jo Jo became an instant hit among the medical staff that took care of his every need. He was then taken to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital for a surgical consultation but for now, they recommended strict cage rest for the next 6 weeks in the hopes the broken pelvis would heal on it's own. We are hoping for the very best for this little guy and he just wants to get better and start over again.

We are so happy to have little Jo Jo in our care and will do absolutely everything necessary to get him well again. We are thankful to our supporters who are helping us to provide him with this very extensive care. Our Res-Q Fund is depleted time and time again due to cases such as this, and always needs your support. Please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund for Jo Jo and the many animals like him, or please text a donation HumaneHelp to 41444

At this most peaceful and joyous time of year, we are hopeful that our caring and compassionate supporters will not forget the little Jo Jo's of the world, who need our help all year through. Jo Jo will be on rest and relaxation duty at our AHS Tinton Falls location and we will update on his condition again soon. We are hoping for a Happier New Year for Jo Jo!
