A City of Newark Animal Control Officer brought a critically emaciated "stray" dog -- and we will never really know the truth behind the small dog whose owner failed miserably to meet his basic needs. We didn't realize how badly he needed help until we saw the results of his grooming.
When the terrified boy arrived for intake, he was so petrified, it was necessary to mildly sedate him. His hair was matted, causing pulling of the skin, long nails that curved under -- and when he was skinned down, we saw a pathetically thin body that made him look like an old, feeble dog beyond his years. He is about 3-4 years old -- much younger than he appeared.
When the sedation wore off, he was given a bowl of food -- and he hasn't stopped eating since! He seems to be making up for all of the lost meals he missed. And he has chosen a staff member to open up & give his heart … and as the staffer sits by her computer, he is always by her feet. The shy guy is also opening up to others as he is slowly losing that "lost soul" feeling he had upon arrival. We are now embarking on finding a great home with someone who will give him the love & loyalty he deserves … and he will provide you with devoted companionship.
