Surrounded by railroad tracks, chemical & industrial buildings, senior citizen complex & residences is where a helpless, pathetically neglected dog was found wandering the streets.
The middle-aged Shih Tzu was badly matted with a tightly matted mess covering the eyes. A good Samaritan named Francesca brought her the AHS Newark shelter to help the handicapped lady in distress. Due to the horrific condition of the dog, we immediately sent her to the Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) in Fairfield. The veterinary staff immediately opened the mats covering the eyes as a blindfold which then released a thick purulent discharge.
She was then brought back to our Newark facility where she was given eye medication and is now en route to our Tinton Falls facility where she will hopefully find a new life with a warm, loving responsible owner.
We call her "Francesca" in honor of the good Samaritan who brought her in.
