One of the most appalling cases of neglect taken in by AHS Newark was a stray from an adjacent town. The 1 year old female English Bulldog had a severe case of 1-2" thick crusty dermatitis and ulceration of the skin folds around the muzzle. The nails were severely overgrown -- into the paw pads on the hind limbs.
"Tortilla" with quickly bathed, given a nail trim & cleaned the ulcerative painful lesions & paw pad punctures. There was severe crusting over the entire body and the ingrown nails made it uncomfortable for her to walk.
Clearly, Tortilla suffered severe pain, neglect and animal cruelty. Tortilla is being given intensive medical care to give her the chance to find a welcoming heart to soothe the neglect & pain she has already experienced in her short life.
Thanks to the donors of the Res-Q Fund, contributions are used for veterinary care, vet specialists, etc. Tortilla is one of the thousands of recipients of the Res-Q Fund …. and we are always in dire need of donations!
She will be with us for awhile to have daily spa treatments, medical care and given comfort & affection that was lacking in her life.
