She did what she had to do to defend her owner
and is now homeless for her defiant courage.
The female pit bull lived in a home that may have been filled with domestic violence -- something we see all too often involving animals.
After her owner's boyfriend had too much to drink, an argument ensued which escalated and he hit her.
The dog charged at the boyfriend and bit him. The AHS was contacted to pick up the 3 year old dog and an Animal Control Officer was dispatched to the scene. When he arrived to take possession, the owner did not want to mention the two nearly-newborn pups that were hidden from view. After further questioning, they handed over the pups to the ACO to ensure that they would be properly cared for
and not neglected, abused or exploited.
Mom and pups are together in a quiet area of the Newark shelter so she can continue raising her family in peace.
It is the height of the baseball season
. so we call her Shea
. and her two male babies are Wrigley and Fenway. They are safe at home plate! Mom has already had an error
. and we don't want her to strike out.
She is best in a home with no other dogs.
The sweet Mom and her babies are now ready for adoption. For more information, call 732-922-0100 and
