Her whole world was coming to a crashing halt …. and she knew it. When she arrived at AHS-Newark, the staff saw her owner treating her very harshly as he took her out of his car. Layla wanted to stay with her family but because they were moving, they were leaving her behind and her owner did nothing nice to make the separation any easier.
Upon arrival, she was given all necessary inoculations but couldn't stop shaking …. and each time staff tried to make friends, she continued to shake. She would not make eye contact, would not eat and had no idea what a toy or rawhide was.
She has been at AHS since April ….. and that is how long it has taken us to make up for the abusive treatment she received at the hands of an owner. According to her evaluator, she likes Italian meatballs! She is no longer tense …. and she has been introduced to the volunteers. The 2 year old lass is now available for adoption …. although it took us a long time to undo what bad treatment had caused. Thanks to our efforts in our adoption program, and your donations we try to give every dog a chance to find "a new leash on life". Layla deserves it.
