Last year during the second week of June on a Sunday night at about 7 o’clock we were packing up a very successful Rock2Adopt 2015. As we sat on the stage I realized we hadn’t talked about a date for 2016 as we always set the date for the next year’s event on the last day of the present one.
Leading up to the event we had talked about the tremendous work and time involved for Donna and her volunteers to make this happen. I turned to Donna and said, “Hey, what about Rock2Adopt 2016?” She looked at me, paused, and said “I don’t know if we can do it, we had a great run but I think 2015 will be the last one.” We are not getting younger and Donna’s health as well as her family’s health and various commitments were taking their toll. Sadly we decided that 2015 would be our last Rock2Adopt.
I think it was around February of this year when I called Donna and asked her if she knew of anyone else that would like to put something together similar to Rock2Adopt. With an emphatic no, she said she had been talking with Peter and wanted to come up to meet with us at Popcorn Park. Through the phone I could see her smile.
Donna Torres and Peter Jester, thankfully made the decision that Rock2Adopt 2015 was not to be our last. This year’s event was graced with beautiful weather, great music and food, and hundreds of awesome people looking at pets available for adoption! The weekend of June 11th and 12th saw yet another Rock2Adopt, our 6th annual music festival promoting adoption awareness.
Donna’s hard work and perseverance has enabled the Rock2Adopt event to raise over $9,200 this year, making this an all-time new record amount, as well as SEVERAL adoption applications filled out! We are incredibly grateful to Donna, Peter, the bands who donated their time to play and all of the sponsors who made this possible.
We are also quite thankful to Alex for his genius work with sound and for bringing all of his equipment, to Bill and Jessica, Donna’s son and daughter, and her brother Al, who all kept the food and refreshments coming throughout the weekend. The crowds were bigger than ever before and we had a great time and met some really amazing people!
