If Sarki's sad eyes don't break your heart then nothing will. Sarki is a 9 year old Eurasier that had plenty to be sad about in her former life. Now that she's with us, we're hoping to turn all of that around for her and get her happy, healthy, and ready for a new home.
Sarki came to us when her owner was moving and could't take her along. Of course, there was more to it than that as we found out later in the conversation. First off, poor Sarki was a filthy, matted mess and really folks, it doesn't take much to bathe and brush your dog, so there's no excuse for that. Secondly, Sarki has been suffering with a thyroid condition for quite a while now. The condition has caused her to become very bloated, her hair to fall out, and her skin to be extremely irritated and discolored. From what we can surmise from medical records, it has been more than 10 months since Sarki received her thyroid medication. Not good for a dog with her condition.
Lastly, Sarki came from an abusive situation. The story we were given includes one of an abusive male individual in Sarki's home that would kick her frequently. If you met Sarki, you would understand why this is both heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. Sarki is gentle, quiet, impeccably behaved, and wants nothing more than to be treated with kindness. For her vet exam and her first bath and brushing, she could not have been better behaved. We cannot imagine how anyone in their right mind could harm such a sweet and innocent soul.
After a few days of settling in, Sarki is already feeling better and enjoying all of the attention she is getting. She actually ran and played in our exercise yard and showed off many of her learned tricks when offered a treat. We will need to get her thyroid under control and investigate some masses that she has and then, Sarki will be ready to start life over again with a family that will give her all of the love, kindness and respect that she deserves.
We will once again rely on our Res-Q Fund to enable us to get Sarki the medical attention that she needs and with so many special needs cases coming in as of late, that fund is quickly being depleted. Please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund, or you can text HumaneHelp to 41444 to donate. Thank you, and stay tuned for more from the sweet and soulful Sarki.
