Every day that goes by brings more animals requiring lengthy stays due to sickness, injury or other physical ailments. The continued generosity of our donors to the Res-Q Fund cannot be minimized. Many people cannot afford the expense of a veterinarian and so the animal is not cared for and may be abandoned to survive on its own.
On January 16th, a very sweet young Chihuahua was picked up as a stray in Newark. Her back legs appeared to be paralyzed - that may have been neurological, but no physical injuries could be detected in an x-ray. "Carmen" was put on cage rest for a short time and then put into medical foster so that she could move around more and get exercise. She still does not have a completely steady stance in her back legs … but she has improved.
Carmen is just one of many purebred dogs awaiting "a new leash on life". Waiting at our Tinton Falls shelter is a Rat Terrier, Chihuahua, German Shepherds, Chihuahua, Shar Pei, Chihuahua, Labrador Retrievers, Chihuahua, Mastiffs, Rottweilers, Beagle, Lhasa Apso, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Cocker Spaniel, and oh yes, Chihuahuas!!!
