Our friend Leo seems to be the only guy around that is actually enjoying this cold weather that we're having! This crazy kid would stay out all day and play if you let him! Leo sure is feeling like a new pup these days and we are so happy for him. He actually is a new pup since coming to us just five weeks ago. It's amazing how far he has come in such a short time. We can't thank you all enough for your support of our work in helping Leo. He is still in the early stages of his recovery and has a long way to go, but thanks to our caring and generous supporters that contribute to our Res-Q Fund, we are able to do everything in our power to ensure that Leo lives a full and healthy life. To help with Leo's ongoing medical expenses, please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund.
You really would not believe the difference in Leo's condition in this short time. Although his eyes are still not good at all, the infection in them has cleared up considerably. His skin is no longer bleeding, inflamed, scabby and itchy and instead it is now soft and new. His hair is growing back quickly and he is so much more comfortable! He is putting on some much needed weight and is getting stronger every day! If you didn't see the condition that this poor boy was in when he arrived, check out his original story.
His personality just gets better with time too, if that's even possible. As you can see in his videos, Leo is a giant goofball puppy that loves to play and have fun, but the more time he spends with us, the more he loves people. Leo now insists on giving his friends a full-on hug before he goes for a walk with them. He isn't overbearing about it either, he's truly being affectionate. He will put his giant paw on your leg as you're talking to him just to be close to you, and he leans on everyone that he meets. Leo has made so many friends in our staff and continues to meet more people every day and has yet to meet anyone that he didn't like. It's truly amazing, given the lack of human interaction that he had for the first 10 months or so of his life. As you will see in this video, we are working on a lot of basic training with Leo too and although sitting when asked may not seem like much to the average dog, it's a big thing for Leo, who didn't even understand much English when he arrived.
Leo has a busy week ahead of him. He is off to see the ophthalmologist, orthopedic surgeon, and neurologist this week at North Star Vets. We are hoping that his skin has cleared up enough to schedule his eye surgeries and just can't wait for the day when Leo's eyes are no longer painful for him and he can see again. Please keep Leo in your thoughts and prayers as he is moving on to the more difficult part of his recovery.
Leo would like to thank you all again for your thoughts and well wishes and would also like to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day! Loverboy Leo will be spending the day goofing around with his squeaky gator and finding some leftover snow to munch on. Please stay tuned for more from our gentle giant Leo.
