Our new friend Mikey has yet to have a breakthrough and really let loose, but he is definitely showing signs of getting there and we know in time, he will. We're not going to sugar-coat it ….. Mikey is one sad pup.
He has every reason to be and there's no denying the fact that someone that he loved really hurt him. Someone really let him down. We hope to help him erase all of that sadness from his memory and get him to realize that life will get better from here on in.
Mikey came to us just a few days ago from New York, as we told you in his initial story. We misunderstood how he came to be abandoned at that veterinary hospital that day though. We thought that Mikey was brought in by someone who just handed him over and left. We thought that maybe it was Mikey's owner who left him there, but we really hoped that it was a good samaritan that found Mikey as a stray, and thought he was doing a good deed. Our first thought was correct- we got clarification on the story and Mikey actually came in with his owner, who scheduled an appointment for him to see the vet. He excused himself to use the restroom and then left, leaving Mikey behind, wondering what happened. It was a cowardly thing to do but again, at least Mikey wasn't just abandoned in the street to fend for himself. Now we understand a little better the reason for Mikey's profound sadness .....
The good news is, all of Mikey's ailments are treatable, and his treatment is well underway. He has already had a couple of long medicated baths which he actually enjoys, and his swollen, red, achy feet get soaked a warm bath and medicated afterward. His ears are being rid of dirt, yeast and infection and though his skin will take a long time to heal, it will eventually heal. His hair will grow back, his eyes will clear up and hopefully, his broken heart will be mended. It all just takes time. Mikey is only about 5 years old and has a long, wonderful life ahead of him …. we just have to get him ready to start over with a loving family that will never abandon him again.
As you can imagine, the various medications, prescription diet, medicated baths, etc., can get costly, so we are relying once again on our Res-Q Fund to help us in the healing of Mikey. If you are able to contribute toward his care, please make a donation. Mikey is not yet available for adoption but you can bet that when he is, we will let you all know so that we can find the best home ever for our loving lab, Mikey.
