Benson and Fortune Update - Oct.1

We are so happy to report that our scared little buddy, Benson, is scared no more! And his happy little friend, Fortune, has helped him so much to become the brave, playful pup that he is now. As you may remember, Benson and Fortune came to us at the same time from our AHS Newark facility when they were both rescued after being abused terribly. Benson suffered an attack by another dog, whether accidental or intentional, we do not know, and then thrown over the fence into someone's yard like an old piece of trash. Fortune, at only four months old, was thrown out of the window of a moving car and suffered a broken back leg. The boys were transferred to us at Popcorn Park to continue treatment for their injuries and recovery, and they have since become best little friends and playmates, as you will see here.

Fortune was very outgoing as soon as he arrived and began making friends quickly. Benson on the other hand, was very withdrawn, sad, and quite scared. He did not fully trust people and it took us lots of quiet coaxing to get him to come around and walk with us. Since he and Fortune share the Vinnie Van Gogh recovery suite, Benson would see Fortune bee-bopping all around when he saw us coming to take him for a walk and Benson figured, "hmm .. they may not be so bad after all". Benson has completely emerged from his little shell now and him and Fortune have a blast exploring our grounds every day while out for a walk, picking up sticks, arguing over toys, and then they'll curl up against one another like they've known each other their whole lives.

Benson and Fortune are almost perfectly healed mentally, but physically, they still have some obstacles. Fortune is still on exercise restriction due to his broken leg and is due to be x-rayed again in a couple of weeks. Benson's wounds in his neck and shoulder are healing slowly but the swollen gland is still a concern and will be further evaluated in the future. The boys have already come a long way and we thank you, as always, for your support in helping us to help them. Our Res-Q Fund has come to the rescue yet again and we are so grateful to our generous supporters who contribute to it. If you would like, please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund for Benson and Fortune, and the many others that we help.

Benson and Fortune are not available for adoption at this time but we will continue to update on their status as their conditions improve. Thank you for your kind thoughts for our bubbly boys.
