Sometimes when an animal comes to us in need of help, looking so sad and dejected, you have to wonder what their story is. In the case of our new friend Rosa, her eyes tell us all we need to know. They tell us that this sweet, scared, gentle pup led a life of sadness and misery, and that she is so hopeful that her life will change now. Her life will most definitely change now and we hope that one day, her past will be just a faint memory.
Rosa was found sitting on someone's porch in South Toms River when it is apparent that she probably broke free from where she was being held. The kind people that discovered Rosa on their porch gave her something to eat, showed her some kindness & contacted Popcorn Park. Our animal control officer picked her up & Rosa seemed to be quite relieved to be taken away. She napped peacefully on the ride to us at Popcorn Park.
Although she is quite shy, Rosa was just so calm and pleasant with everyone that she met when she arrived as she knew life could only get better! She went straight to our Medical Dept. to be checked out since obviously. this poor pup was severely neglected. Rosa is extremely emaciated and was also infested with hookworms, which we have already begun treating, Her ears have been chewed terribly by flies and were scabbed and bleeding. She was so tolerant as her ears were cleaned and treated, as if she was thankful to finally have some attention.
Rosa also has some scars and old punctures on her and her teeth have been filed down. This is an indication that she may have been used for breeding. She also looks to have had a litter of puppies recently which were probably worth more to her owner than poor Rosa ever was.
Rosa has had a spa day and although she was nervous at first, she actually began to love every minute of it after she got used to it. She will need more medicated baths as her skin is in poor condition, and she will be on various medications for her ears and other areas that were chewed by flies. We are again relying on our Res-Q Fund to help this darling girl in need.
Rosa, who is about 4 years old, will need lots of good meals, rest, and relaxation and soon, she will be looking for a fresh start in life in a home where she will be loved and cared for the way she deserves to be.
