Leoti - Emaciated Stray, Multiple Skin Problems

There is absolutely no excuse for the pain and suffering that the human race inflicts upon its pets and in the case of our newest German shepherd friend, we can't imagine what events transpired to lead to the suffering that she is currently enduring. This beautiful girl came to us in such horrid condition when our animal control officer picked her up as a stray in Waretown. She was found in a densely populated area, so it's not as if she were alone in the woods for weeks on end, which might even explain a bit of why she is in this awful condition. No .. we can't think of any reason for anyone to let this sweet and gentle girl to get in this sad state.

We have named her Leoti and the personality that she has is heartbreaking. Leoti is thin as a rail . truly just skin and bones, yet she is so gentle taking a treat and eating the first few meals that we gave her. Her skin is in horrific condition and she must have been suffering with these skin infections for a long time for it to be as coarse as sandpaper and sagging as much as it is. Her hair is missing in several areas and her ears are infected and inflamed. Upon initial examination by our veterinarian it was discovered that Leoti also has a bit of a heart murmur, but the rest of her conditions are due to neglect, pure and simple. We will run some tests to find out more and begin treating her ailments immediately. She will need medicated baths and long soaks daily, along with a variety of medications.

As always, we are thankful to our supporters who contribute to our Res-Q Fund, which is the fund that enables us to treat such special cases like Leoti. Although Leoti has been starving and suffering, she certainly does not hold anything against people. She literally melts when you pet her and gazes at you with such loving and hopeful eyes. She sticks to your side and leans against you, as if she hopes that you will never leave her. She is so loving and gentle .. we just can't imagine who could ever let her get in this dreadful condition. This will one day be a bad memory for her as we help her to put her sad past behind her. Leoti will have a long road to recovery ahead of her, but we are confidant that she will be thriving once again.

She is not available for adoption yet, but we will update frequently on the progress of our new lovely friend, Leoti. Please be sure to go to our Facebook: Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter and pictorial updates will be up as her health improves.
