This is Nanni, a shepherd/golden retriever that was one of five dogs that we rescued from a hoarding situation in Lakewood, NJ, where 40 dogs were living in an abandoned home. (Read the full story here.) Nanni lived in rooms with more than a foot of feces and garbage on the floors, and had never in her life been properly taken care of.
When Nanni arrived, she was the first to be groomed. She was caked in mats and feces. It took nearly four hours to remove all of the feces, dirt and mats from her body and Nanni was an absolute angel through it all (no sedation was required). We used #30 and #40 blades on Nanni as she needed to be shaved down to the skin, and went through four blades while grooming her. She also needed a long, warm soak in a hypoallergenic bath when grooming was done.
