Devlin - Abandoned to Die in Padlocked Barn

Our new friend Devlin didn't get flowers or candy this Valentine's Day, he got something better .... his freedom.

This 2 year old pit bull was living a lonely life in misery, in horrific conditions, for the last several weeks. Our Animal Control Officer was called out to pick up this starving dog when he was finally able to free himself from the hell that he was living in, and went straight to the closest house for help. We learned from the neighbor that the property where Devlin was living was put up for sale and his owner moved out weeks ago. What they didn't know was that the owner left Devlin behind.

As if that wasn't bad enough, they left Devlin in a dilapidated, garbage-filled shed, with a caving in roof, and padlocked the door so he could not get out. There was no food or water in sight, and we hate to think what Devlin was eating to stay alive. Barking for help would do him no good, since the neighbors were not close enough to hear him, so Devlin summoned the strength to climb up to a small opening near a makeshift window, and squeeze himself out. He suffered some minor cuts and bruises in the process, but at least he was finally free.

Devlin was overwhelmed with joy when our ACO brought him to us at Popcorn Park and gave him a good meal, a warm bed, and some much needed medical attention. We were relieved to find out that other than the minor injuries that he sustained, Devlin is in good health otherwise. He is at least 20 pounds underweight so we have him on a good diet of several small meals a day so that he can adjust to eating again slowly and without getting himself sick. His temperament is fantastic and his tail has barely stopped wagging since he arrived. He is making so many friends and now looks at his past as just a bad memory.

We are so grateful to our supporters who contribute to our Res-Q Fund, which enables us to help the special cases, like Devlin, put their past behind them and get a fresh start in life. Please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund toward Devlin's care, and the many others like him.

Devlin is currently in residence at Popcorn Park where he is waiting and hoping for a new family and a new life.
