What a hectic few months our little girl Princess has had. Princess was turned in to our Newark facility in October, 2014, along with her friend Prince, when their owner became very ill and could no longer care for the maltese pair. The condition of them both was just horrendous. They were matted, dirty, thin and neglected. They were both quite relieved to be brought to a safe place where they were given good meals, medical treatment, and immediate spa days. Princess began to perk up immediately once she realized that things would get better from here, but Prince still seemed a bit off. He was suffering with pneumonia which was left untreated and sadly, he passed away a short time after he was turned in. Thankfully, he knew comfort and peace in the last few days of his life.
Princess was obviously distraught to lose her little companion, so she was transferred down to Popcorn Park to get a fresh start in life and put her past behind her. Princess had and upper respiratory infection that luckily, did not turn into pneumonia, so she was due to be spayed as soon as the illness cleared up. But Princess had a little secret that she was keeping to herself that was revealed one morning in December, when this little lady had some company in her area.....a litter of puppies! Princess was carrying this litter during her lengthy and traumatic ordeal of being neglected, uprooted from her home, struggling with a nasty cold, and having her whole life turned upside down. This is one tough little cookie!
Princess moved into a suite in our medical department with her tiny family and we are thrilled to say that mom and babies are doing wonderfully. Princess has proved to be an incredible, loving, nurturing mother who takes great care of her babies. She is also so very happy to be safe, warm, and loved, and is just overjoyed when her staff friends visit with her. She has even made friends with our friendly feline, Molina, who shares her suite with her. Princess allows Molina to clean and cuddle with her puppies and the babies just love having another "mom" around.
Princess and family are not available for adoption right now, as they will need several weeks together still, but this little family is coming along nicely and we are happy to have been able to help this little mom in her time of need. When we talk about the need for our Res-Q Fund, this is exactly what it is used for- to provide wonderful pets like Princess and her family with all they need to have the healthy and happy lives that they deserve. Please help and make a donation to our Res-Q Fund.
We will be posting updates on Princess and her family but again, they are not available for adoption right now. Please stay tuned for more from Princess and the pups. In the meantime, the entire family is at Popcorn Park.
