What happens to the dogs that are given away "free to a good home". This is one anecdotal story ... and we hope it gives a warning to those who may find it necessary to give up their pet. At this point, we don't have a beginning or an end …. just a short story on how we can help this dog.
Bentley is a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel that was brought to the AHS Newark shelter to be euthanized. The owner said she got the dog 6 months ago and does not know why or how the dog is suffering from what was noted on the paperwork as possibly two broken back legs. Our office staff urged the owner to let us take Bentley in to see what we can do to help this dog and give him a better life. She advised: "If it don't go good, put it to sleep".
Bentley was immediately brought to our Medical Dept. for examination. At this point, the Cocker Spaniel has no broken back legs but we are exploring other possibilities. He will be on medication for a week and will be re-examined for other causes for his paralysis. We need your help to expend much-needed funds to medically explore what is needed to give Bentley "a new leash on life". We continually dip in to our Res-Q Fund to help the many needy animals -- each one with a different heartbreaking story. Please make a donation and make a difference.
