Although it was a cold, windy, rainy day today here in New Jersey, Evan made the best of it and continued to be in great spirits. His "happy dance" is a part of his morning routine now and he can hardly contain his excitement when he sees us. There is no keeping Mr. Evan McBoxer down!
After Evan's brief walk this morning (he didn't like getting his footsies wet in the puddles!), we took him on an inside walk and he was absolutely mesmerized to meet some of our resident birds. He would stare at them and listen to them talking to him all day if he could! Evan then went to get dried off, and parked his skinny rear end on his favorite fluffy bed for a while. He is truly loving life these days. Although he has a considerable amount of discomfort from his various broken bones and injuries, he acts as if he is a spry, healthy puppy.
There is already a noticeable difference in Evan's appearance and even though it is still very early in his recovery, he is showing such signs of improvement, it's incredible. He is still extremely thin and underweight but every day he looks just a little bit plumper. Evan eats well several times a day. It may appear as if we are not giving him much, but his system is still very fragile. He must get used to eating and digesting food again slowly, to avoid re-feeding syndrome. Just yesterday, Evan vomited up some of what he was eating to survive only a week ago ….. large pieces of plastic. It's so upsetting to think of him having to eat such items just to stay alive but thankfully, that is in the past now.
Evan has a LONG way to go and may have a few surgeries ahead of him for his pelvis/hips. We won't know until his front leg heals a little more and he becomes a bit more healthy. Evan's medical bills are already mounting and any contribution to our Res-Q Fund, no matter how much, is greatly appreciated. Please make a donation and help Evan.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and well wishes for our new friend Evan. He appreciates it more than you all know. Please stay tuned for more from our sweet boy, Evan.
