This adorable little guy is Naoki, a 6 year old Japanese Chin, that came to us in need of some help. Naoki was turned in to our AHS Newark facility by his owner who said that they could no longer care for him. It was immediately obvious that Naoki had some medical issues that were clearly left untreated, so it was a good thing that he was turned over to us when he was, before matters got worse for this sweet little boy.
Naoki was transferred to us at Popcorn Park and went straight for medical evaluation with our veterinarian, Dr. Baris. We first discovered the obvious, the Naoki was suffering with ocular disease that was never properly treated. Tests were performed to determine the pressure in Naoki's eyes and we discovered that he had severe cataracts in one eye, and a cataract and possible glaucoma in the other. Unfortunately the worse of his two eyes is too far gone. He is completely blind in that eye and it is causing him discomfort, so his eye will need to be removed. Some more tests will be run on his right eye to determine whether or not the eye can be saved and once we get that information, Naoki will undergo surgery on his eyes.
As if that were not enough for this darling little boy to deal with, poor Naoki was dealt another lousy hand in life ….. he has a torn Achilles tendon in his hind leg. We have no way of knowing when the injury occurred, but Naoki has adjusted to walking on three legs, so we fear that he has been in this condition for quite some time. He will need to be measured for a brace and we are hoping that walking with the brace may help to heal the injury and allow Naoki to get back on all fours once again.
Even with all of this going on, Naoki just could not be any sweeter or more loving. He just adores everyone he meets and gets a giant smile whenever one of his many new friends goes to visit him and take him for a walk. He gets around well for being nearly blind and on three legs, and is happy to have a kind friend to guide him along and keep him safe while he is on his walk. Naoki is a calm, well behaved, affectionate little guy that just wants to be held and cuddled, and assured that everything will be okay. Everything will be okay, we can promise him that.
Our Res-Q Fund is what will enable us to help Naoki, and so many others like him in need. We are so grateful to our supporters who contribute to this fund and couldn't do this work without them. Please make a donation to our Res-Q Fund.
